ACCESS OBSTACLES TO EQUITABLE HEALTHCARE

Everyday, women bear the burden of caring for themselves and their communities. In countries like India and Nepal, women are responsible for up to 84% of caregiving duties. Faced with gender disparity barriers including; unequal power relationships, social norms impacting education and paid employment, poverty, the focus on female reproductive roles and more, women’s health in many developing countries is NOT prioritized

According to the World Health Organization:

  • Almost 95% of all maternal deaths occurred in low and lower middle-income countries in 2020, and most could have been prevented

  • By 2048, NCDs are projected to cause the vast majority of Global deaths, with heart disease, cancer and diabetes amongst the top 4 diseases

  • In 2022, approximately 660,000 new cases of cervical cancer were diagnosed worldwide, with about 88% occurring in LMICs. Furthermore, of the 350,000 deaths attributed to cervical cancer that year, approximately 94% were in these countries

  • Every 14 seconds around the world, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer
